One Heart Equestrian Therapy offers therapy to individuals demonstrating physical, cognitive, mental, or emotional limitations and special needs. We work with children and adults who have been born with disorders or diseases; injury victims; and children and adults with emotional disorders and/or learning disabilities. Many of the students have multiple handicaps.

The work that we do is truly a team effort. A therapist and PATH Intl certified therapeutic riding instructor evaluate and set goals with every client using information about the student provided by parents, teachers, doctors, and therapists. Furthermore, One Heart could not operate without the support of the community. Individuals and businesses contribute equipment, technical expertise and money and volunteer hours. All of which support the services of this non‐profit organization.

Since its founding in 2001, One Heart has provided therapeutic services to over 80 individuals presenting with 38 distinct diagnoses. Besides the instructor and therapist staff, all the services at One Heart are provided by volunteers. Volunteers and clients come to One Heart from nine Iowa counties. One Heart instructors are also certified Special Olympics Equestrian coaches and qualified riders participate in Iowa's Special Olympics Equestrian competition.
